Teamsters pause the county strike. More than 400 Orange County employees represented by Teamsters Local 952 are returning to work after union leaders paused the strike that began last Tuesday, calling it a show of "good faith" after mediation. County supervisors plan a special meeting Friday to discuss a new contract, but no deal has been reached, and the union says it will return to the picket lines if the offer falls short. The county, for its part, has accused picketers of blocking roads and slowing operations at county landfills.

Newport Beach declares an emergency ahead of king tides. The Newport Beach City Council declared a state of emergency ahead of king tides forecast for October 26–28, warning of flooding on beaches, in the harbor and on city streets after recent tides flooded parts of the Balboa Peninsula. The city has activated its Emergency Operations Center, and a sand replenishment project is moving about 100,000 cubic yards of sand from the Santa Ana River mouth to eroded beaches between 36th and 62nd streets.

Santa Ana weighs its Flock cameras. At Councilwoman Jessie Lopez's request, the Santa Ana City Council took up whether to have the city manager return with options to end or suspend its two automated license plate reader contracts, worth up to more than $700,000 combined. The debate follows Fullerton's decision earlier this month to switch off its Flock cameras for six months, as residents across the county raise privacy and data-sharing concerns while police say the cameras help solve crimes.

Nearly $1 million in trading cards stolen in Santa Ana. Santa Ana police said thieves broke into a FedEx truck on Oct. 13 outside the Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) office and took two full pallets of collectible cards, plus part of a third, including Pokémon and sports cards. Police estimate the loss at about $963,000, though the exact value is still being determined. The cards belonged to collectors around the country who had sent them in for grading.

Laguna Beach spends $500,000 to save its only ER. The Laguna Beach City Council voted unanimously to spend $500,000 on experts and consultants to find a way to keep the city's only emergency room open. Providence Mission Hospital Laguna Beach is slated to close in early 2030 rather than undergo about $350 million in seismic upgrades, and state law does not allow stand-alone ERs.
