Recently, Trump commented at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago that he didn’t know Kamala Harris was Black because she always pretended to be Indian. This stirred controversy within the Black community. Meanwhile, evidence emerged suggesting Harris had presented herself as Indian in the past. This led to skepticism among Black people about why she hadn't embraced her Black identity despite her father's Jamaican heritage.
A 2019 article by Harris's father, Donald Harris, resurfaced, revealing his grandmother Christiana Brown was a descendant of Hamilton Brown. Hamilton Brown, an Irish accountant who moved to Jamaica, amassed wealth through a sugar plantation and owning over 1,000 slaves. He later received substantial compensation from the British government when slavery was abolished. This revelation has shocked both the Black and Irish communities.
