Orange County Election Results: Early Counts After Nov. 3

Orange County spent Wednesday counting ballots from the Nov. 3 general election. The figures below are early, unofficial returns from the OC Registrar of Voters and may shift as remaining ballots are processed. The next update is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday.

Democrats Hold Narrow Leads in Two Key Supervisor Races

Board majority at stake: As of Wednesday's 5 p.m. count, Democrats were on track to keep their majority on the Board of Supervisors. In the Fifth District, incumbent Supervisor Katrina Foley led Republican Assemblywoman Diane Dixon 51.6% to 48.3%, a gap of more than 6,000 votes. In the Fourth District, Buena Park Mayor Connor Traut (D) had 50.3% of the vote, leading OC Board of Education trustee Tim Shaw (R) by just 824 votes, after Shaw briefly pulled ahead early Wednesday morning. If Republicans flip either seat, they would regain a majority alongside Supervisors Don Wagner and Janet Nguyen.

Aitken Leads Anaheim Mayor's Race Despite Controversy

Incumbent ahead: Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken led early returns with about 57% of the vote, ahead of Alfredo Rodriguez at about 32% and Imran Sharief at 11%, with more than 57,600 votes counted in the race as of early Wednesday. The race followed a claim by Aitken's chief of staff alleging racist and homophobic remarks and heavy drinking at city functions; Aitken has denied the slur allegations and acknowledged struggling with alcohol. The Anaheim Police Association's PAC withdrew its support and spent against her, while Disney- and hotelier-funded committees backed her.

Calvert Leads Young Kim in Redrawn 40th Congressional District

Republican vs. Republican: In the 40th Congressional District, redrawn under Proposition 50 to cover parts of Riverside County plus Rancho Santa Margarita, Anaheim Hills and Mission Viejo, Rep. Ken Calvert led Rep. Young Kim about 54.5% to 45.5% in Election Night returns (70,550 votes to 58,817). Both are sitting House members who were drawn into the same district.

Irvine's Ranked Choice Voting Measure Too Close to Call

A possible first for OC: About 51% of Irvine voters supported switching city council elections to ranked choice voting, with about 49% opposed, in early returns. If approved, the system would start in 2028, making Irvine the only Orange County city to use it. Preliminary estimates suggest the change could significantly raise election costs as the city faces a projected structural deficit of about $37 million a year by mid-2028.

Most City Tax Measures Passing; San Clemente's Failing

Budget measures: Early returns showed Orange's 1% sales tax (Measure I, ~55% yes) and hotel tax hike (Measure J, ~59%), Santa Ana's extension of its 1.5% sales tax (Measure N, ~68%), hotel tax increases in Westminster (Measure O), Placentia (Measure L) and Los Alamitos (Measure G), and Costa Mesa's business license tax cap increase for large businesses (Measure C, ~70%) all passing. San Clemente's citizen-initiated 1% sales tax for sand replenishment and wildfire prevention (Measure M) was failing, with about 64% voting no.
