Felony charge in marina pug-abuse case: A 32-year-old Desert Hot Springs man was arrested and booked on a felony animal cruelty charge after security cameras at the Huntington Harbour Marina in Huntington Beach captured him hoisting his pug by its leash and punching the dog early on the morning of Sept. 20, according to police. William Kenneth Slocum was taken into custody after a remote surveillance operator who spotted the attack on a live camera feed called 911; officers arrived and turned the dog over to OC Animal Care. Slocum, who is presumed innocent, faces up to three years in state prison and a $20,000 fine if convicted, along with a permanent loss of animal ownership rights under California law.
