Guilfoyle out as ambassador to Greece. Kimberly Guilfoyle resigned as U.S. ambassador to Greece on Tuesday after the Trump administration asked her to leave, following Wall Street Journal reports of improper and possibly illegal conduct — including allegations that she offered access in exchange for a donor paying a large credit card bill and threatened a Greek official. New White House press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed the departure at her first briefing. Guilfoyle denies the allegations and says she will "vigorously defend" her name; the State Department's inspector general is reportedly reviewing the matter.
DOJ gives California a 48-hour ballot ultimatum. In a letter to Secretary of State Shirley Weber, acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter gave California 48 hours to review a federal list of people the government believes are noncitizens who were sent mail ballots. For anyone whose citizenship can't be verified, the state must have counties set aside their ballots, or the Justice Department says it will seek emergency court relief. A similar letter went to Los Angeles County; Weber has previously voiced "serious doubts" about the reliability of federal data.
Supreme Court takes up DOGE records fight. The Supreme Court agreed to hear the Trump administration's appeal in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought by the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) seeking records from Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency. Lower courts sided with CREW, which argues DOGE is a federal agency subject to FOIA; the administration says it is a presidential advisory body shielded from disclosure.
