Anthropic files for a potentially record-breaking IPO. San Francisco AI company Anthropic publicly filed on Monday to go public on the Nasdaq under the ticker "ANT," with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as lead underwriters. The filing shows revenue of $16.3 billion for the six months ended June 30, up from $1.2 billion a year earlier, alongside a net loss of $80.7 billion — about $72 billion of it a non-cash accounting charge tied to convertible notes and other financing instruments. The company has not set a valuation, but The Wall Street Journal reported a possible range of $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion and a raise of $100 billion or more, with a listing targeted for the week of Nov. 16. The debut comes as questions about AI safety continue to swirl.

Twelve hurt, including six children, in shooting after FAMU homecoming game. Gunfire erupted Saturday night in a crowded area near Florida A&M University's football stadium in Tallahassee, hours after the school's homecoming game. Eleven people were shot and a twelfth was hurt while fleeing; as of Sunday six remained hospitalized, one in critical condition. Police arrested 15-year-old Anthony Rivers III on 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent, said a fight broke out before the shooting, and indicated more arrests are possible. FAMU President Marva Johnson called the attack "senseless and despicable."

"Once-in-a-generation" flooding swamps the Four Corners. Days of heavy rain that began Wednesday have caused catastrophic flooding across Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah, forcing hundreds of water rescues and evacuations. New Mexico's San Juan River crested at 21 feet on Saturday, its highest level in almost a century; New Mexico's governor has requested a federal emergency declaration, Colorado's governor declared a disaster emergency in a dozen counties, and the National Guard is helping patrol affected areas. Flood warnings remained in effect Monday, with more storms expected later this week; forecasters say El Niño is likely contributing to the unusual weather.

Trump escalates attacks on Michigan Senate candidate's faith. At a Sunday rally in Port Huron, President Trump called Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed a "jihadist," invoked 9/11 and Flight 93, and said El-Sayed would need to pass through a metal detector to enter the Senate. El-Sayed, a former Detroit health official who could become the nation's first Muslim senator, faces Republican Mike Rogers for the seat of retiring Sen. Gary Peters in a race that could help decide Senate control on Nov. 3. His campaign called the attacks desperate and in bad faith, and Arab Americans for Trump co-founder Bishara Bahbah called the remarks racist.

Air defense systems now ring Mar-a-Lago. NORAD and U.S. Northern Command confirmed that ground-based air defense assets have been placed in and around President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate at the Secret Service's request, declining to give specifics "due to security considerations." On Monday, two of the systems were seen aboard a barge in the Intracoastal Waterway outside the club. Over the weekend a NORAD F-16 intercepted a civilian plane that strayed into restricted airspace nearby — part of more than 60 such intercepts around Palm Beach since January 2025. Officials have not said whether a specific threat prompted the deployment.
