Mississippi Senate race still too close to call. Two days after the polls closed, Democrat Scott Colom leads Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith by 1,138 votes, 464,926 (49.0%) to 463,788 (48.9%), according to WDAM. About 3,600 mail-in ballots are still outstanding, voters have until Nov. 10 to cure affidavit ballots, and counties must certify results by Nov. 13. Mississippi has no formal recount process; after certification, a candidate can examine ballot boxes and go to court if they find problems. Mississippi has not sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1982.
Alaska is also undecided. In Alaska's slow-counting Senate race, Democrat Mary Peltola leads Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan 48.2% to 47.9% (about 102,700 to 102,075), with roughly three-quarters of the expected vote counted, according to ABC News. Even without these two races, Democrats have already won control of both chambers.

House Democrats hold leadership elections by secret ballot on Nov. 18, and the full House votes on a Speaker in January, when 218 votes are needed.

In his first public remarks since the losses, President Trump said it was "largely true" that the GOP lost because the Iran war pushed up gasoline prices. That echoed a post by Vice President JD Vance blaming the war. Trump also said, "If I was on the ballot, we would have won." He said Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has done "a very good job," but CBS News reports he has asked advisers whether Hegseth should stay. Rep. Thomas Massie plans to force a vote on impeaching Hegseth when Congress returns next week.

Separately, Iran's Revolutionary Guard said two oil tankers and a tugboat caught fire after using unauthorized routes through the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reported.
