Two killed in high-speed McLaren crash on Culver Drive. Shortly after midnight on Sunday, September 13, a 2019 McLaren traveling northbound on Culver Drive at Deerfield Avenue accelerated hard when the light turned green, lost control, struck a curb and a tree, then split apart and caught fire, Irvine police said. Orange County Fire Authority crews extinguished the blaze; both occupants were found deceased inside the vehicle. Relatives identified one victim as James Wehr, co-founder of South OC Cars and Coffee; the second occupant had not been publicly identified by authorities as of Monday's reports. Police are asking anyone with information to call traffic investigators at 949-724-7047.

 

Taco Bell moving to larger Irvine headquarters. Taco Bell and sister brand Habit Burger & Grill plan to leave their longtime shared HQ near the Irvine Spectrum for a larger three-building campus at Alton HQ on Alton Parkway, about a mile away. The roughly 254,000-square-foot site can house about 1,100 people—more than the current footprint—and the companies expect to relocate by 2028, reinforcing a decades-long corporate presence in Irvine.

 

Broadcom purchases its Irvine research campus. Chip and software company Broadcom bought the 660,000-square-foot Irvine office and R&D campus it had been leasing near the junction of the 5 and 405 freeways for $325 million from PRP Real Assets—one of Southern California's larger recent office sales. The deal returns Broadcom to ownership of a property it developed and sold in 2017 before leasing it back.
