Irvine’s Nano Banc closed; Sunwest Bank takes deposits. On Friday, September 25, the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) closed Irvine-based Nano Banc and appointed the FDIC as receiver. The FDIC said Sunwest Bank of Sandy, Utah, will assume substantially all deposits and purchase about $476 million of assets. Nano Banc’s sole branch is scheduled to reopen as a Sunwest Bank branch during normal hours on Monday, September 28. Depositors automatically become Sunwest customers, keep FDIC insurance, and have immediate access to funds via checks, ATMs, and debit cards; loan customers should keep making payments as usual. As of June 30, Nano Banc reported about $736 million in assets and $686 million in deposits. DFPI said the seizure followed years of enforcement actions, a large 2026 loss, and failure to meet capital requirements; the FDIC’s preliminary estimate of the cost to the Deposit Insurance Fund is about $114 million. Mid-Autumn Festival fills the Great Park tonight. The city’s free sixth annual Mid-Autumn Festival runs Friday, September 25, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at the Great Park Palm Court Arts Complex (8000 Great Park Blvd.), hosted with the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center. Expect more than a dozen music and dance performances, culinary demos, children’s activities, crafts, night-market games, and more than 20 food vendors. Irvine Police DUI and license checkpoint tonight into Saturday. The Irvine Police Department will run a DUI and driver’s-license checkpoint Friday night into Saturday, September 26, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., as part of ongoing impaired-driving enforcement. Checkpoints are marked; officers screen vehicles on a preset basis and send suspected impaired drivers to secondary evaluation. Drivers should plan extra time and designate a sober ride.

 

Earlier Friday, the city’s Healthy Living Expo also ran from 9 a.m. to noon at Lakeview Senior Center with free fitness demos, health screenings, flu shots, and wellness exhibitors (admission and parking free).
