UCI launches countywide early-psychosis warning program. On Wednesday, UC Irvine announced a $2.6 million federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grant to build a first-of-its-kind Orange County system that identifies youth and young adults ages 15–25 showing early warning signs of psychosis and connects them to care before a first episode. Co-led by psychology professor Jason Schiffman and psychiatry chair Dr. Cameron S. Carter, the four-year effort partners UCI’s iEDAPT clinic, the Together Clinic, and Thrive Together OC. Planners expect more than 150 young people in treatment over the grant period and 500–600 brief screenings each year, with referrals from schools, pediatricians, and community groups.

Commission weighs park plan for 107 Dupont Drive apartments. Irvine’s Community and Library Services Commission was scheduled Wednesday evening at City Hall to review the park plan for a proposed six-story, 107-unit building at 2152 Dupont Drive in the Irvine Business Complex. The project would replace a two-story office and surface lot with 96 market-rate and 11 very-low- and moderate-income apartments, on-site recreation (including a pool and spa), and about $1.395 million in community-park in-lieu fees. Because of California Density Bonus Law, the applicant seeks two park-standard waivers; city staff recommended support. The commission’s action is advisory to the Planning Commission.

Hoag prepares Sun Family Campus ribbon-cutting. Coverage Wednesday highlighted Hoag’s forthcoming Saturday, September 19, ribbon-cutting for its roughly $1–1.2 billion Sun Family Campus expansion at Hoag Hospital Irvine—six new buildings totaling about 475,000 square feet and 155 inpatient beds, with women’s, cancer/digestive, surgery, and outpatient pavilions. A free “World of Wonder” community experience is planned for September 19–20, and full services are expected online by September 28, expanding local maternity, oncology, and specialty care capacity.

City promotes sixth annual Mid-Autumn Festival at the Great Park. Also on Wednesday, the City of Irvine announced it will partner with the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center for the sixth annual Mid-Autumn Festival on Friday, September 25, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at the Great Park Palm Court Arts Complex. The free, family-friendly event features more than a dozen musical and dance performances, culinary demonstrations, over 20 food vendors, merchants, mahjong, paper cutting, children’s crafts, and night-market games.
