Teamsters strike disrupts Bowerman Landfill services. More than 400 Teamsters Local 952 members walked off the job Tuesday amid stalled contract talks with Orange County, picketing at the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill in Irvine and other county sites, Voice of OC reported. The City of Irvine said the landfill remains open and is accepting waste, but delays are possible. Public compost pickup, asphalt delivery, and soil delivery are suspended until further notice, and the city's October 17 compost distribution event has been canceled. Traffic delays were expected on Bee Canyon Access Road near Portola Parkway while picket lines were up; the city said the planned strike action was expected to conclude at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The union says county negotiators lack authority to settle; a county spokesperson said contingency plans are in place to keep essential services running. Heat advisory set for Thursday through Saturday. The City of Irvine announced Tuesday that a Heat Advisory takes effect Thursday, October 15, at 10 a.m. and runs through Saturday, October 17, at 8 p.m. All City of Irvine facilities are designated cooling centers for residents and pets. Officials urge residents to drink water regularly, wear light clothing, limit outdoor exertion in the heat of the day, never leave children or pets in vehicles, and check on neighbors who may be at higher risk. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call for help immediately if someone shows confusion, hot dry skin, or an extremely high body temperature.
UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge tops $1.3 million. More than 3,800 runners, riders, and walkers joined the 10th annual UC Irvine Anti-Cancer Challenge on campus October 10, raising more than $1.3 million for research at the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and its pediatric affiliate, Rady Children's Health, UCI Health reported Tuesday. The event has raised over $9 million since 2017. Donations for this year's challenge are accepted through October 31 at anti-cancerchallenge.org/donate.

목요일~토요일 폭염주의보(Heat Advisory). 어바인시는 화요일, 10월 15일(목) 오전 10시부터 17일(토) 오후 8시까지 Heat Advisory가 발효된다고 발표했다. 시 시설 전체가 주민과 반려동물을 위한 쿨링센터로 운영된다. 시는 물을 자주 마시고, 가벼운 옷을 입고, 한낮 야외 활동을 줄이며, 차량에 어린이나 반려동물을 두지 말고, 고위험 이웃을 확인해 달라고 당부했다. 열사병 증상이 있으면 즉시 응급 도움을 요청해야 한다.
